Meetup Description
The meetup is a one-size-fits all study and translation meetup. We welcome everyone from complete beginner to fluent speakers; we'll adapt to who shows up. We encourage those fluent in Icelandic to come join and help! We'll be using "Learning Icelandic" and/or newspaper articles from mbl.is, comics, Icelandic childrens books, or any other reasonably easy texts the attendees can bring 5 or 6 copies of. --You don't have have done the homework to attend. Whole Foods has good seating in their upstairs cafe and they have Skyr and Smjör! Study lasts for one hour. No more "Teach Yourself Icelandic" until September when (long range plans willing), the group will have a weekly meetup specifically for complete beginners again.

In the rubble of post-World War II Berlin, artist Charlotte flees her past and everything she's lost by responding to an ad calling for 'strong women who can cook and do farm work' in Iceland. But painful memories and ghosts follow Charlotte as she struggles to make a new life in a raw and rugged landscape. This debut novel celebrates the twin powers of storytelling and art as ways to reassemble the fragments of Charlotte's broken self and move her'and everyone she loves'toward peace.
